Thanksgiving Service

Kevin started his scouting career as a “Scout Instructor” (equivalent of today’s Young Leader) at 15th Elstow Bedford after attending the same group as a cub and scout. He then progressed to Assistant Scout Leader and then Scout Leader at 15th Elstow. Along the way experiencing and enjoying many, many activities and travels along the way. (Just too many to mention!)

In 2002 Kevin took on the role of District Scout Leader within Bedford District until 2005, to then be offered the position of Assistant District Commissioner (Scouts) which he held for 14 years. Along the way in 2007, Bedford District recognised Kevin’s service and was awarded Chief Scouts Commendation for Good Service – “Medal of Merit” – given for outstanding service within the movement. Between 2014-2018 Kevin continued to play a very active part in many groups within the Bedford District which included Explorer Scout Leader, Scout Leader and Assistant Beaver Scout Leader. In late 2018 Kevin moved out of the District and soon joined 1st Rushden in Nene Valley District to continue his service in the movement.

We asked Kevin “What was the most important aspect of being within Scouting for you?” he answered frankly with:-

“The most important aspect is to encourage youngsters to try everything, to give it ago, no matter how big or small the progress is it is still an achievement. All I want to do is encourage young scouters to build on important life skills, to have an adventure. Be honest, have respect for themselves and others. We can all take care of each other and the world we live in. We as Leaders are here to build your confidence to be able to go out into the world and achieve anything they put their mind to. And of all this can be done by having fun!”
